Rutherford Schools Chief Unveiling Middle School Plan Tuesday Night

RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Rutherford Schools Supt. Jack Hurley will host a round table discussion at the high school at 7 o'clock tonight of a plan to create a middle school.

Tonight's round table talk comes before an Oct. 19 Board of Ed vote to create a middle school.

“This will actually show the public our vastness of the proposal and get the public’s support and hear their concerns,” Hurley told Daily Voice.

The Board of Education plans to vote on the plan at its Oct. 19 meeting. If approved, the reorganization would go into affect for the 2016-17 school year.

The proposal for a middle school has been floating around since a committee was formed last year to explore the possibility.

The concept is to covert Union School for grades 7 and 8. Washington and Lincoln schools would remain the same holding grades 1 through 3. And Pierrepont would hold grades 4 to 6.

“The purpose is to just go into detail about the curriculum benefits for not just the middle school grade levels, but all levels,” Hurley said.
